This activity was inspired by my research into Feminist Pedagogy, which is detailed in my Annotated Bibliography. This activity, which was utilized in the Revision unit of my English 101 clasess that hasve just ended, has multiple aims:
1) To aid students in understanding the meaning of “deep” revision
2) To encourage critical thinking and self-inquiry
3) To make students aware, even if unconsciously, of society’s gender constructions
4) To employ key traits of feminist pedagogy, such as collaborative learning/decentered authority
This activity was very successful when I conducted it with my students; many had to consider gender constructions in a way that they had not before and they did so while discussing these termsĀ amongĀ themselves.
